When I thought about launching a special section to share readers comments, I was perplexed about finding just the right topic to spark conversation and stimulate response. It hit me all at once. What better focus for lovers of romance than the handsome, brooding heroes who take center stage in our favorite romance novels. Although the physical characteristics are outlined by the author, every reader tends to envision the man of her dreams. Fantasy, mystery, and romance-the male lead is always fulfills someone's desires. The genre doesn't matter, whether it is a historical, contemporary or futuristic setting, the hero is created with attributes that deliver the promises of your dreams. So let's explore Hunks, Hunks, and more Hunks.
Fabio, Adrian Paul, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, and Mel Gibson came to mind as a few of the possibilities. No one quarrels with they distinctive appeal. Certainly, they fully qualify for Hunk status. But after giving it some thought, I realized that other elements come into play when we try to examine the phenomenon of attraction between the sexes. Here are a few well known males that could make a Hunks' list, without dispute.
 FABIO
After a mandatory stint in the Italian Army, Fabio decided to pursue modeling as a career. He began his career posing for fantasy novel covers and became a household name synonymous with romance. In October 1993 Kensington published the first romance novel by a man in his own name, PIRATE by Fabio. Fabio retired from his modeling career to pursue other ventures, including several calendars, a cassette of romantic songs entitled FABIO AFTER DARK, and a fitness video.
ADRIAN PAUL
Tall and dark, Adrian Paul is the epitome of a perfect hero. Born and raised in London, he came to the United States about ten years ago, after establishing himself as a dancer and choreographer, as well as a model, in Europe. He signed with the Ford Modeling Agency in New York. He found roles in several TV dramas and landed the starring role in The Highlanderseries. Adrian character Duncan McLeod is strong and mysterious yet soft and vulnerable, making a bevy of female hearts beat in a quick flutter. Adrian's idea of a perfect romantic evening would be candlelight, soft music, and a meal of Thai or Japanese cuisine. Candlelight anyone?
ROB ASHTON
Rob Ashton personifies the Alpha male, handsome and complex. His eye-popping physical characteristics make him perfect for the fantasy world of romance. Rob was selected 1995 Mr. Romance Cover Model. When he won the coveted title, one of his prizes was to model for the cover of an upcoming novel. This assignment launched his career and was the first of the many covers which followed. You'll find him on the cover of your favorite novel, bare-chested and muscular, with his long dark hair framing his gorgeous face.
BARTLING BROTHERS
The three blond, look-alike romance cover models-the Bartling brothers Jim, Kurt, and Kris-are also know as the most famous hog farmers in the world. They certainly put Unadilla, Nebraska on the map! Sadly for their fans, they have been out of the limelight for the past two years, putting modeling and TV appearances on hold in order to expand their family farm business. Nebraska's gain is our loss!
DENZEL WASHINGTON
Denzel Washington joins the line of stars who have been crowned Sexiest Man Alive, an exclusive list from Peoples Magazine. With his selection, he joins other celebrities such as Mel Gibson, John F. Kennedy, Jr, Sean Connery, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford and George Clooney. While he has portrayed a variety of diverse characters, I long to see him in romantic leading man roles. He's got everything it takes!
SIDNEY POITIER
Although Sidney Poitier's career was a door-opener for many, he remains modest about the importance of this accomplishment. He portrayed Nelson Mandela in the made for TV movie Mandela & DeKlerk, and in April 1997, he was appointed ambassador for the Bahamas. A heart throb for all ages.
BRAD PITT
Brad Pitt is one of Hollywood's hottest stars. With movies such as SEVEN and LEGENDS OF THE FALL, Brad gained new respect and became more than just a pretty face. He was voted Sexiest Man Alive by People magazine.
TOM CRUISE
Tom Cruise started his road to fame in RISKY BUSINESS, doing a hot rendition of Old Time Rock and Roll in his briefs. Since then he has starred in TOP GUN, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE, and FAR and AWAY. His most recent movie is EYES WIDE SHUT with co-star wife Nicole Kidman.
BILLY DEE WILLIAMS
Billy Dee Williams starred in Lady Sing The Blues and Mahogany with Dinah Ross. His role as Lando Clarrisian in Star Wars enusre him a place in classic movie history. He is a sexy hero for any millenium.
PIERCE BROSNAN
I remember Pierce Brosnan from the old Reemington Steel television show where he co-starred with Stephanie Zimbalist. Since that time he has played agent 007, James Bond and is currently working on a remake of The Thomas Crowne Affair. Debonair, sophisticated and devilishly handsome, Pierce gets my vote for this hunks list!
