Bethany Russell returned from her business trip to the Czech Republic filled with excitement and anticipation. She is anxiously awaiting arrival of the shipment of items she purchased. The success of this venture would prove her business acumen and shore up her self-esteem. Disheartened by a failed and humiliating romance, Beth wanted to prove, on a personal level, that she could remain aloof from scoundrels spouting wistful words of love. During her visit to Prague, Alex Andrews, on sabbatical from his duties as a lecturer in Modern History at a prestigious university, assisted Beth as her interpreter and guide. For Alex, it was love at first sight. He stole Beth's kisses and warmed her blood, while she struggled to hold her heart in a firm grip. Beth thought Alex was just another polished liar, trying to tempt her with his promises. She returned home thinking she could remain unscathed by their brief interlude. When the long awaited shipment arrives, the inferior articles she receives devastate Beth. Her sizeable investment in these worthless items virtually ensured the financial ruin of her business. She remembered how often Alex had cautioned her to beware of disreputable vendors, warning her of their unethical practices. She realizes she has failed once again, just as she had failed in fighting her growing attachment to Alex. Love saves the day, reunites the reluctant couple and prevails despite overwhelming odds. Some may be turned off by Beth's naivete, but she displays a fighting spirit coupled with a sweet vulnerability that makes her special. Alex, on the other hand, is vague and poorly developed.
